Located near the Amazonian
capital of Colombia Leticia. It can be reached via Leticia’s
(Colombia) or Tabatinga (Brazil) international airports. Local flights
from Colombia’s Capital Bogotá takes a couple of hours and then by
road only 30 minutes to the reservation. It has a typical Amazonian
weather hot and humid.
MONIFUE AMENA was the first tree ever
harvested. That tree gave
food enough for the entire first uitoto tribe. Today
MONIFUE AMENA is the name of our community.

Ethnic- Ecotourism center MONIFUE AMENA was
created with the purpose of helping to preserve the forest, the fauna
and the brooks of the Amazon jungle in their natural environment, and
at the same time improving the life conditions of the natives and
strengthening and spreading the traditions and myths of the Uitoto
culture.
The Ethnic - Ecotourism in MONIFUE AMENA is
an interchange of knowledge, languages and habits. Through it you can get in touch with the culture of the
jungle by sharing both quiet and exciting moments of the daily life of
the natives, such as the adventures of the hunters, the family and
community habits, the traditional meals, medicines and crafts, and the
ancient stories and mythology.
The program includes, according to the
preferences and time available of each visitant:
- Talk about native architecture and traditions
- Visit to the “chagra” (crops)
- Stories and mythology
- Interpreted walk on the trail
- Preparation of traditional meals and medicines
- Observation of the fauna
- Survival lessons
- Camping night in the jungle
Other activities can be
chosen such as:
- Canoe ride on the “Takana” River, to the
“Amazonas” River. *
- Fishing.
- Handicraft making.
- Use of natural paints, including body paint.
- Learning about the use and manufacture of
musical instruments, ceramics and implements of daily use.
- Preparation of traditional medicines.

Basic
Program: 4 days / 3 nights.
Day one:
One representative of the community will wait for you at Leticia or
Tabatinga airport. Also if you arrive by boat he/she will be at proper
location to transfer you to the Monifue Amena center. You will receive
a briefing on the activities and life around the community.
In the afternoon a visit to one of the nearby “chagras”
will introduce you to the local way of cultivating and growing their
main crops.
In the evening enjoy a meeting with locals to
listen to some of their traditional tales.
Day two:
In the morning a visit to the forest to learn about the plants and
medicines so long used by this community. A close encounter with a
local recipe to try your skills on a basic kitchen, will be your next
challenge and as a result a typical lunch (hopefully). During the
afternoon you can participate in one of the survival courses taken
place in order to learn the whereabouts of life in the Jungle, and how
to built a safe campsite. After dinner it will be time to meet the
nocturnal creatures of the Amazon. By river or by land depending on
weather conditions.
Day Three:
Morning walk in the jungle to learn the hunting habits of
the locals. How to build
tramps and to prepare the basic food when “away from home”. After
lunch you will have the opportunity to put into practice what you
learned in the past two days. Built a campsite, hunt for your food and
be able to prepare the next meal.
In
the evening you can relax again listening to the locals when sharing
their tales about life in this remote area of the world.
Day Four: Very
early visit to the nearby jungle to observe the fauna at this time of
the day. Farewell lunch
and traditional “good
by” offered by the members of the community

MANU
The World Heritage Treasure in the Southwester region of the Peruvian Amazon basin.
One million eight hundred hectares with the greatest biodiversity on earth. Tropical rain
forest, cloud forest and even high altitude "tundra". Abundant fauna, jaguar,
black Cayman, giant otter and many more considered as endangered species.
From Cusco by bus or by small plane.
Bus ride from Cusco early in the morning to cross the mountain area of Paucartambo before
descending towards the cloud forest. On the way we may have the opportunity to observe the
mating ritual of the Cock-of-the-rocks (Peruvian bird) and other animals that inhabit this
area. Overnight in Pilcopata. Next day continue to Atalaya from where we continue by the
Madre de Dios River observing the variety of birds including the amazing King Vulture
better known as the Condor of the Jungle.
For the next five days we will have the opportunity to observe wildlife and learn about
the functions and secrets of the tropical rainforest

PALMARI NATURAL RESERVE (BRAZIL)
Four (4) hours motor canoe ride from Tabatinga or Leticia where you can fly from
Bogotá or
Manaus. Located deep into the Amazon jungle bordering Peru Colombia and Brazil. This is
one of the few Jungle lodges located near (6 hours) places completely forbidden for
tourism. Where still tribes unseen by the white man can be found and where the cannibalism
still persists. Only few people crosses this land with special permission from Brazilian
authorities and skillful local guides paying a high enter fee. We don't visit this place
but we could organize it if you are interested enough. Our normal visit is to the Javari
reservation.

The M/V RIO AMAZONAS was built in 1800 in Scotland. It was rebuilt in 1981 and
refurnished in 1994. It carries 44 passengers in 21 air conditions cabins. The dinning
room and library are air-conditioned. It has an ample deck area, cover and uncovered with
Jacuzzi and comfortable deck chairs and hammocks.
Note: Same cruise can be done upriver from Tabatinga to
Iquitos.

IQUITOS TO TABATINGA BASIC LOCAL
CRUISE 4 days/3 nights (MINIMUM)
Local boats cover this route in a daily basis. Accommodation is in hammocks and food is
not included. Privacy is reduced and be ready for sleepless nights plenty of conversation
and games. The cultural contact is strong and just recommended for really adventurers. No
comfort available.
The ship stops in small villages by the river or in the middle of the river if necessary
to pick up a new passenger or responding to a friendly call from another boat to
"exchange" provisions.
Price goes from US 25 to 100 depending on your negotiation skills and fluency in
Spanish language.
This is really a great experience.
IQUITOS (Peru) TO LETICIA (Colombia) or TABATINGA
(Brazil)
Fast boat that leaves every day at 0500 and arrives at 17.00. Carries from 20 to 30 passengers in tandem
