Adventure
in the Mountains, Jungle and Uyuni Salar of Bolivia.
This is a trip designed to have an overview of the options that Bolivia
presents for Adventure and leisure travel. We will start in La Paz, one of the highest
cities of the world at 3.700 m with the highest airport at 4.100m. It is a beautiful city
full of contrast between the ancient and the modern life. Active, messy, resourceful but
definitely worth visiting. The city sleeps under the surveillance of the Illimani Mountain
6.490 m.
Moving ahead we will experience one of the most famous
bike rides of the world, Coroico downhill. From high land, surrounded by snow Cape
Mountains we will descend to tropical scenarios in approximately five hours time via the
small village of Yolosa.
The trekking section of our trip is the
Coroico Choro trek. We now return to the high altitude plains. We will trek around
60 kilometres in four days and will go from 1000 m. to 4.750 m. The roughness of the
terrain from the semitropical Yungas to the high valley of La Paz show us a hidden world
of exotic plants, refreshing waterfalls and scenarios not seen before by many people.
By jeep we will continue next day via
Oruro, towards another of the astonish locations in Bolivia. Uyuni, the biggest
salar of the world. Will spend a night in Jirira and another in Uyuni town,
after visiting the Thunupa volcano, Lomo Pescado Island and Colchani where salt is
processed as in ancient times. Uyunis salar is spectacular, huge, definitely one
unbelievable place to be in.
The best it is still to come Madidi
National Park, Bolivias premier Amazonian Reserve. By plane to Rurrenabaque and to
Chalalan via the Beni and Tuchi rivers (4-6 hours). During three days we will be amazed by
the rainforests ecosystems, streams, fruiting trees, clay licks and wetlands where
wildlife congregate and forage.
Totally 15 days of adventure that will
present us a pretty good idea of what Bolivia really is and its many faces. We will meet
people from different locations and will appreciate their hospitality towards visitors. We
will notice that even though we have so different ways of life, in these hidden corners of
the world we can still feel at home.
